Designing a web site is defined as the arrangement and creation of web pages that in turn make up a web site .A web page consists of information for which the web site is developed. A web site might be compared to a book, where each page of the book is a web page.

Generotech’s basic aspects of design are:

The content: the substance, and information on the site should be relevant to the site and should target the area of the public that the website is concerned with.

The usability: the site should be user-friendly, with the interface and navigation simple and reliable.

The appearance: the graphics and text should include a single style that flows throughout, to show consistency. The style should be professional, appealing and relevant.

The visibility: the site must also be easy to find via most, if not all, major search engines and advertisement media.

With the expanding technical options for communication on the Web, developers might be tempted varies issues such as hypterext markup language (HTML) syntax, page layout, or the latest and flashiest technologies.

And, as technical communicators know, developing information requires keen skills in planning, analysis, and design in addition to Web-oriented skills in representing information in a particular medium

Genero Technology  Methodology involves six process and six elements. I base this methodology on the characteristics and qualities of the Web and on the particular experiences of Web users

Audience information is a store of knowledge about the target audience for the web as well as the actual audience who uses the web.

The purpose statement defines the reason for and scope of the web’s existence.

The objectives list defines the specific goals the web should accomplish.

The domain information is a collection of knowledge and information about the subject domain the web covers.

The web specification is a detailed description of the constraints and elements that will go into the web.

The web presentation is the full description of the technical structures (hypertext and other media) by which the web is delivered to the users

Because of the porous quality of a web, you need to consider how a variety of audiences might find different “ways into” your information. Hypertext can provide alternate views of information and alternative routes for users to follow based on their needs and interests. A good way to provide this flexibility is to separate information into manageable page-sized chunks and then provide cues for the reader about the web’s information structure and contents, context, and navigation. A Web designer thus creates an overall link architecture for a web specifying page contents and the hyperlinks among these pages to connect information along the routes of user needs.

In addition to planning the structure, the layout and interface of individual pages may be planned using a storyboard. In the process of storyboarding, a record is made of the description, purpose and title of each page in the site, and they are linked together according to the most effective and logical diagram type.

Genero Technology  designed in greater detail as a website wireframe, a mock up model or comprehensive layout of what the page will actually look like. This is often done in a graphic program, or layout design program. The wireframe has no working functionality, only planning, though it can be used for selling ideas to other web design companies

A web designer should also create a coherent and consistent “look and feel” for the entire web. One way to do this is to use principles of page layout and design and provide the user with a variety of visual cues. These cues, consistently placed on pages of the web, help users navigate and use the web’s information. Because a web is characteristically bound in its use context, these cues should help reveal that context, so that the user can find related information and find how the web relates to other areas of knowledge.

After completed a web design, the next step is to implement the web A web implementer creates hypertext markup language (HTML), Common Gateway Interface (CGI) programs, and/or Java scripts and/or applets. The implementation process resembles software development because it involves using a specific syntax for creating hypertext structures in HTML or writing programming language code statements in computer files. Website Designing is becoming more interesting and easy with time. A few years ago people only thought creation of a website template or designing a website is only a task for computer nerds. But with introduction of new softwares, languages, php, xhtml, Mysql, opensources like Oscommerce, X-cart, Magento, Prestachop, Cubecart, Joomla, Drupal, Php ezabi, WordPress, zencart, Ajax, content management systems it is relatively its easier to create any website or blogs.

Createing a Table less Web design When Netscape Navigator 4 dominated the browser market, the popular solution available for designers to lay out a Web page was by using tables. Often even simple designs for a page would require dozens of tables nested in each other. Many web templates in Dreamweaver and other WYSIWYG editors still use this technique today. Navigator 4 didn’t support CSS to a useful degree, so it simply wasn’t used.

the browser wars subsided, and the dominant browsers such as Internet Explorer became more W3C compliant, designers started turning toward CSS as an alternate means of laying out their pages. CSS proponents say that tables should be used only for tabular data, not for layout. Using CSS instead of tables also returns HTML to a semantic markup, which helps bots and search engines understand what’s going on in a web page. All modern Web browsers support CSS with different degrees of limitations.

Generotech flow’s for accessible site , web pages and sites must conform to certain accessibility principles. These accessibility principles are known as the WCAG when talking about content. These can be grouped into the following main areas:

Semantic markup also refers to semantically organizing the web page structure and publishing web services description accordingly so that they can be recognized by other web services on different web pages. Standards for semantic web are set by IEEE

Using a valid markup language that conforms to a published DTD or Schema

Provideing text equivalents for any non-text components (e.g. images, multimedia)

Using hyperlinks that make sense when read out of context. (e.g. avoid “Click Here.”)

Using CSS rather than HTML tables for layout.

Author the page so that when the source code is read line-by-line by user agents At the outset, create a stable, extendible directory and file structure to manage the web’s files and/or software components (including CGI or Java programs).

Using HTML tools such as editors and authoring environments where helpful. Note that some of these editors are “translators” from authoring programs meant for paper based publications and are not always customized for hypertext development.

· Check the web’s implementation in various browsers to ensure that the HTML can be interpreted properly. Use templates for supporting the consistent look and feel defined in the Web’s design

During analysis, we examine a web’s elements to see if it is accomplishing its objectives, to see if it is implemented correctly, and its domain information is correct and up-to-date. The goal of this evaluation is to identify problem areas. Most of these processes have a common theme that is broken down to Design, Production. A few of these processes don’t include the analysis before any work is done, while some have various stages of design mockups. Some of these processes don’t include post launch activity, such as testing or evaluation.

Of course, every process depends on the project at hand, however this is a good start to understand some common methods
